the market seems scared of everything right now and I believe we will trade in the 3500 to 4000 for quite some time

I'm a little confused here.

How would a smaller rate hike lead to the market going down, and a larger rate hike lead to the market going up?

What if Greenspan decides to give us a series of .50 rate hikes?

My greatest fear is the rates will go up high, the market will tank, and we'll be stuck with the higher rates.
