I was very moved by this post, haqi, and am so happy for you. The one thing I have envied religious, church-going people is that they have groups such as the one you describe, which they sometimes call their "church families." A sense of community is a wonderful thing, and most of our friends are widely scattered. Fortunately, not all.

No, there is one more thing I have found myself envying in difficult times. Things have happened in my life that I know were simple accidents, without meaning, only pain. If I had had the ability to convince myself that there WAS a meaning to them (that a God had willed it), it would have been a comfort.

Still, we are all different. I would not want to believe the sorts of things that you have accepted, even for happiness, if I hadn't already found it. But I understand it. And we all have to get through the night, and I have had nights that were very long and dark.
