Sequoia did fund Apple's start-up, but that wouldn't have anything to do with a big dispute. I think Sequia wanted to merge C-Cube with another company, and Alex and others on the board wanted to stay independent. Merging the Company would have saved the $300M+ of cap gain taxes, a compelling reason to merge.

It would have taken something to do with the future direction of the company for Sequoia to leave.
