--9:54 am ABN-Amro defends Cisco
Commenting on the Barron's article regarding Cisco Systems (see 9:33 item), analyst Kenneth Leon at ABN-Amro said "we would buy the stock on any price weakness from the Barron's article." Leon disagrees with the reports assertion that Cisco needs acquisitions to grow; he believes market share gains in "high growth addressabel markets" drives the company's success. He added, "Valuation always stirs debate, but Cisco is growing at a rate well above its major competitors. We support a premium valuation." Cisco (CSCO: news, msgs) is now 3 1/2 lower at 64 1/4.

Gary, RE: That would have been a stupid bet... Betting that CSCO powers ahead $20 beyond the all time high or drops back to support against a backdrop of the NAZ moving from 3000 to 5000 in 4 months.... I'm not surprised that no one took it... and you're not either.

Investing is all about trying to make a bet that you consider to be lopsided in your favor, true? And one thing's for sure, when CSCO was 80, there were a whole lot of people that were taking the other side of that bet.
