Crossroads and Legato Announce That Crossroads Storage Router is Now Celestra-Enabled Celestra Power 2.0 Eliminates the Backup Window in SAN Environments
AUSTIN, Texas and MOUNTAINVIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2000--Crossroads Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:CRDS - news), the leading developer and manufacturer of Fibre Channel storage routers, and Legato© Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:LGTO - news), the leader in enterprise storage management software, announced today the qualification of Crossroads' third-generation storage router as Celestra-Enabled(tm).
With Crossroads' storage router and the Celestra application, users can easily move critical data directly from disk to tape with minimal server intervention and without impacting production networks. The solution will utilize technology based on the emerging Extended Copy standard developed by Legato, Crossroads and members of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). Demonstrations of these advanced solutions are being featured at the NetWorld+Interop (N+I) '00 in Las Vegas, May 9-12.
Legato Celestra Power 2.0 is managed by Legato NetWorker, an NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol)-compliant backup application, and moves data directly from disk to tape at ultra high speed. It relies on a SAN device or storage unit embedded with Extended Copy, an open copy specification developed by the Storage Networking Industry Association. Crossroads, a leading member of the Legato Celestra Consortium, has worked closely with Legato to implement Extended Copy.
``Server-free backup is the next installment of the 'killer app' for SANs,'' said Rick Luttrall, Crossroads' director of storage router product management. ``Almost all backup devices require a storage router to connect with the SAN and by combining the server-free capability of the Legato Celestra software with our Crossroads third-generation storage routers we now make it possible to virtually eliminate the backup window.''
By offloading LAN, CPU and I/O resources -- CPU and I/O are reduced by 95% -- during backup and recovery, network bottlenecks are eliminated and high application performance is maintained using Legato Celestra Power and the Crossroads router. And by using advanced snapshot technology, backups are live with no user lockout or system downtime -- eliminating the need for a backup window. Celestra Power 2.0 is an open, interoperable, and highly scalable solution supporting Solaris, HP-UX and NT platforms.
``We are pleased to announce qualification of the Crossroads router as one of the first Celestra-Enabled SAN devices,'' said Paul Payack, senior vice president, Legato Systems. ``This qualification is a testament to both Crossroads' and Legato's commitment to deliver server-free backup to the SAN data protection space.''
