The issue revolves around transactions where ELN gives a partner $50 million (for example) for some portion of a JV. The partner then contributes its IP (intellectual property) and some people plus some or all of ELN's $$$. The JV then pays ELN for doing some research for them, translating ELN expense into net income, or so the bears say. The truth lies somewhere in between I bet. The answer depends on if ELN or the JV or the partner is doing the research. IMHO, I like what they are doing because it increases the odds of hitting many more singles and doubles, something ELN is good at. No blockbusters here (except for maybe Z and Alzheimer's stuff), but a lot of good niche products and royalties from others' blockbusters.
