B: 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance Gains Momentum; Membership Grows to Over 50 of
the Top Networking Players

LAS VEGAS, May 9, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance
today announced that its membership has increased to over 50 companies in just
three months. The Alliance, which now represents the "who's who" of the
networking industry, is an association of leading networking companies committed
to providing customers with open, cost-effective, and interoperable 10 Gigabit
Ethernet solutions. The mission of the Alliance is to promote 10 Gigabit
Ethernet for local area network (LAN), metropolitan area network (MAN), and wide
area network (WAN) markets and support the IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet
standards process.

For more information about the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and its activities,
visit its booth at NetWorld+Interop in Las Vegas, May 9-11, booth no. 8113. The
Alliance will also be hosting an open two-hour session entitled 10 Gigabit
Ethernet Technology and Standard on Wednesday, May 10 from 3:00 - 5:00 at
NetWorld+Interop.

"We have witnessed tremendous enthusiasm for 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology
among both the end-user and vendor communities," explained Willem Wery, vice
president of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and strategic marketing manager at
Intel. "We were pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the Alliance's
membership has grown. We believe it to be a direct reflection of the
technology's reliability, compatibility and cost-effectiveness. The aggressive
standards timeline adopted by IEEE 802.3ae has also strengthened the
attractiveness of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, accelerating the technology and product
interoperability."

Positioned as a high-speed, unifying technology for networking applications in
LANs, MANs, and WANs, 10 Gigabit Ethernet will provide very high bandwidth with
simplicity and relatively low cost. In LAN applications, 10 Gigabit Ethernet
will enable network managers to scale their packet-based networks from 10 Mbps
to 10,000 Mbps and thereby leverage their investments in Ethernet as they
increase the performance of their networks. In MAN and WAN applications, 10
Gigabit Ethernet will enable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Network
Service Providers (NSPs) to create very high-speed links at very low cost
between co-located carrier-class switches and routers.

Alliance Members

The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance was officially founded January 25, 2000. In
just three months, the organization has grown to 58 members:

About the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance

The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance was organized to facilitate and accelerate the
introduction of 10 Gigabit Ethernet into the networking market. It was founded
by networking industry leaders: 3Com, Cisco Systems, Extreme Networks, Intel,
Nortel Networks, Sun Microsystems, and World Wide Packets. Additionally, the
Alliance will support the activities of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet committee, foster
the development of the 802.3ae (10 Gigabit Ethernet) standard, and promote
interoperability among 10 Gigabit Ethernet products. For more information, visit
