Nintendo PowerPC has Matsushita DVD ; IBM Set Top tie in ?

Thanks George. Due Fall 2000 it's timed after Sony's upgrade but Nintendo's "DVD console" could easily be internet & interactive TV capable , and a "docking station" for a "Hand-Held" (jellyapplebean) .

It's a $9 bln market (games/TV) and next week's 3E (Elect. Entertain. Expo 2000 in LA) may provide some clues :

Original PowerPC spec is 400mz with 200mz for a SGI like ArtX video chip which tops Sony's 300/150mz:
underworld.fortunecity.com

IBM announced a TV Set-Top PowerPC 401 (w/Core Connect) at last year's NAB and added nothing at this years NAB - strange !
chips.ibm.com

This market is the IBM Keypunch/Electric Typewriter of olden times with opportunity knocking with MSFT hobbled. IBM thew away its Ser. Bureau , its Sat Bus Sys and Prodigy but that was before Louis of G.

To win the data entry minds & hearts of consumers world-wide IBM needs to AIM for a easy to use OS from top to bottom to run on 128-bit PowerPCs .

"Ya know" (as Steve Jobs sez) , ya never know (which Kid Kary hopefully adds!).

Regards,
Jim K.

George - RE: "Just wondering, from your sales/marketing perspective, would if make more sense for Nintendo to announce before or after the Sony Playstation2 release in the U.S., or would that not be a factor ? I would think Nintendo would want to be first or they might get buried."

Actually, the next gen Nintendo console, Dolphin, has been delayed until 2001. This article says Nintendo may have done this because of the increased competition from Microsoft's X-Box.

IBM's Nintendo PowerPC might yet be under this year's XMAS tree

Nintendo's (Tokyo) Space World 8/24 is "Dolphin's" rumored announcement date :

dailyradar.com

Last year it was expected to be worth $1 bln to IBM :
zdnet.com

Wonder if IBM's Via Voice or hard disk storage will eventually make it worth more ?

Probably not from Nintendo directly , who plans DVD I/O , but the rumor includes a internet hookup called "Staroad".

If Kodak and others use/add IBM's new mini disk with a similar PowerPC device , it could be the basis for much more IBM revenue:

Nintendo's last news on the Dolphin deferred it until 2001 so this is speculation . Interesting that Nintendo never revealed the exact reason for the delay.
