I haven't seen any good arguments today from the bears. I'd love to, however. It would make me feel much better to know more weak spots in a stock, because they definitely exist. Tom Hi Tom. I'm long on Cisco, so I'm a little biased. But I hope not much. When I did, it looked VERY expensive. And then it split, and then it doubled (and then it split again). I might add that I think Cisco has ALWAYS looked expensive. (it certainly does now). (but not as expensive as 80). Anyway, you asked a good question about risks. Here's how I see 'em. (In no particular order). 1) the market has, for the last decade or so, valued GROWTH vastly over Value. If this situation was to reverse, then CSCO stock price would suffer. CSCO is the consumate growth stock. (notice today growth of revenue at 55%) 2) Cisco is trying to enter market that it has not before dealt in against bigger more established companies (Nortel, Actel, LU, etc). These will not be easy companies to beat. It will be necessary to out price and out-performance them. Some would laugh at the idea of out-performing Lucent's Bell Labs in the Optical Space. Of course, the market is going to IP, which is Cisco's dynasty. 3) Cisco's core business is fairly mature. In general, this means that it typically slows down. Of course, Enterprise (Cisco's old business) was up 50+ percent in the last quarter, and we are talking about the internet here (that has a LOT of growth yet to go in Europe, China, India, etc. etc. etc). 4) New Startups are challenging Cisco on the performance end in their core business. I don't believe that Cisco's routers are the fastest anymore (they probably will be soon). This will be an ongoing problem. (note that established players have pulled out of this market) 5) Cisco's workforce retention. Cisco has two problems in this area: a) Startups trying to take employee's away, and b) Employee's leaving because they are financially independent. Cisco stock has had a tendency to do that to it's workforce. Against these obstacles, you have the benefits> 1) The whole world is going digital. Cisco is Digital. 2) Best management on the planet. (Worth, Fortune) 3) Best financial management and very strong financials. 4) Best use of the internet for sales/customer service, etc. (Cisco is the internet) 5) Best at acquiring companies and integrating companies (so far). 6) Very very very big new markets to conquer. 7) History of conquering very well.
