You ignore [again] that his son was being held by ranting fanatics who had said from the start that they would not voluntarily release the boy under any conditions. To suggest that Juan Miguel should have gone to 'visit' them in such an environment is ridiculous - he would have stood no chance of survival in that mob without accepting their dogma that all Cuba should live in Miami. Clearly he acted in a responsible manner in working through legal channels, whether you like the government of the day of those channels, or not. And look - he's with his son now ... it worked.

Sweltering yogi,
Why are you refusing to take into consideration the factors of his being in Cuba, needing permissions from both countries, lied to by our government, betrayed by his own relatives here, no doubt getting faulty information through his own government.... this is not a sophisticated man, nor a terribly well-educated man, according to some sources, not even a very bright man, his situation must have seemed overwhelming to him emotionally, politically, practically.
You seem to look at this with either incredible callousness or naive idealism-
I ask this sincerely- are you very young?
I can see my sons making these statements-- ("He should have--- ! He should have---!) It's something I love dearly about young people- this self-assurance that they know what is right somehow, and all the rest is just details details. Heck- I RAISED my boys to have this purity in viewpoint.

If you are young, then I am glad you have these ideals, but there is another side to that that comes with years. If you are NOT young, then --
well. Hmm, we DO have a problem!
