So we're both about 70% cash now. Anybody else care to chime in as to % cash or other broad portfolio allocation measures?

Can you have a margin account in a retirement account?

No. But some firms allow you to buy puts and calls and sell cash secured puts in IRAs. Selling covered calls and/or buying protective puts is typically allowed.

You could indirectly short with retirement funds by putting the funds in a hedge fund that shorts.
