Message Content Code: [WF] IBM Analyst's Meeting
[I'm starting to Wrap Fish with the media because it's giving my *ss a rash]

Five dollars says SUNW gets upgraded after IBM's analysts meeting...

That's what *should happen. But since the press always looks for the conflict, the "let's you and him fight" angle, the current Dow Jones wire story about this meeting has the following headline:

IBM CEO Says Big Blue Targeting Server Market Dominated By Sun Microsystems

Worth an upgrade?

Don't you just love it? Gerstner gets up and says (just like Carly Printerina) "Our earnings have been lousy, we're not growing much so don't look for double digits, I can't decide whether to blow up our PC division which is a total disaster, and I'm out of Y2K excuses. We may not make much money, but by God, we're targeting Sun! They TOTALLY DOMINATE THE UNIX SERVER MARKET AS IF THEY WERE IN IT ALL BY THEIR LONESOME, and I figure if we draw some pentagrams and sacrifice some chickens we can get us a piece of that!"

Now, as a responsible reporter, which of the following headlines would you assign to a story about that meeting? (Note: This is a hard question for the illiterate).

a) Gerstner: IBM All Dressed Up and Nowhere To Go

b) IBM Admits to Prospects of Single-Digit Revenue Growth

c) Foundering IBM PC Division Faces Uncertain Future

d) Analysts choose 'Gladiator' over IBM Analyst's Meeting

e) IBM TARGETING SERVER MARKET DOMINATED BY SUN!!!!!

Answer on page 5 percent.

Tomorrow should be an up day.

well JC you owe $5. SUNW wasn't upgraded after IBM announcement however, I see some announcement soon to prop up the stock, I feel the USIII or StarPortal , or an acquisition or a buy back but something. Milunovich says IBM is into too many businesses. Their statement introduced nothing new.

IBM is losing the storage and server market share to EMC and SUNW and talk is cheap.
