Chuck - RE: "<Do you still want flash to be spun off?> Yes, unequivocally." While I think spinning off flash would increase shareholder value right now, at THIS stage I don't feel comfortable investing in a completely processor-centric AMD. I feel this way because of competitive pressure and because the Athlon only competes in one market right now. As the year progresses and the Athlon core enters new markets, AMD will have more than one pillar holding up the processor division. These pillars - high and low end desktop PCs, high and low-end notebooks, and server/workstation - will better enable AMD to fight off Intel and a potential back door threat from Via. Having flash right now allows me to have the peace of mind that AMD is practically guaranteed a certain amount of high revenue stream each quarter, something AMD hasn't really had in the past. When next year rolls around and these pillars will have had enough time to plant themselves into the ground, I think a possible flash spinoff should be considered. But even them I will be still partial towards flash. ;) I have read lots of article about upcoming celluar technology and how speeds will get faster and these handsets will actually become pretty useful. As far as I know, flash is the ONLY way AMD can benefit from this very fast growing market that should continue to grow through 2003. But if a flash spinoff increases shareholder value a lot by next year or soon after, I do think it should be considered. And by then flash companies might be given an even higher market value, which means more money for us! "I am also very bullish on NAND flash." Is that the one for digital pictures? The one AMD doens't make?
