National pride is the #1 motivator here and pride could be blind as well, sadly.

I find it interesting that there is an element of this in Chinese living in the US, which I don't understand at all, especially from people with roots in mainland China. Why leave China in the first place, and than support the China's destructive foreign policy?

If war or blockade occur, Athlon is toast.

I don't think blockade would occur. That's more of a long term policy arrived at in some after some deliberation. And the US + Taiwan are equipped to handle it.

I am more worried about an outright invasion, which would result in a great loss of life, property damage, and it could leave the US surprised, paralyzed, and even could make the odds of success on part of China a good probability. I think an invasion could be a rash reaction to perceived (by mainland Chinese leaders) provocation of Taiwan.
