Does the Comcast "rumor" of a stock flip change anything except ownership of the stock?

This rumor is an invention, not even worth entertaining. My interpretation of Robert's comments is posted on this thread.

There is no doubt in my mind that yesterday's run to $28 was for the most part a short covering rally. Thoughts?

Yes, I had assumed as much. But, ah's report on money flow would imply that that isn't the whole story.

DocStone,

If you were going to short a stock, why ATHM right now?

Knowing that the stock flies with such ease, wouldn't you wait for the next rally? A new short could try now at 19 1/2 and make 3 points, yes a nice return, but what happens if the stock opens at 25 one day?

Regards,

Rob

DocStone: You do realize that Comcast did not disavow any of the news reports?

Yesterday was a turning point for ATHM. Yesterday's actions caused analysts to issue "Strong Buy" recommendations (Prudential and Warburg). Yesterday got a lot of institutional attention.

Even ATHM and T didn't come out with statements against the idea.

At these prices, a lot of the downside risk has been taken out of the stock. If you own hold. If you don't, take a small position. Certainly, don't short. What rational reason would you have to do that? And, for that matter why sell if you are holding a position? If an offer is made or if the institutions after crunching their numbers discover that an adjustment to recent valuations are in order, you will wake-up one morning facing a wide gap up. You'll kick yourself for having sold.
