In many ways, we are certainly not superior to other areas of the world, but in this case "we" certainly are.....
I do understand your concern however.
Of course the bonds between children and parents are almost (here is where I disagree with you a little bit) never meaningless, but what sense is it for Americans such as yourself to stand on the "soapbox" expressing such concern for a father/son relationship, when you are perfectly willing to let the father take the child back with him to the land of the dictator(s), where that bond that you believe to be so precious can be broken at any time by those egomaniacs in charge down there? And when you consider that Juan Miguel and his son would practically live like kings here with no fear of that precious bond being interfered with, then your side of the argument makes very little sense at all I'm afraid.....
I believe that you have good intentions, but in this case, the famous saying that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", certainly applies. Yogi
