Pravin, re:<ALso, shouldn't Intel be required to make some sort of news release about flooding the market with Katmai PIIIs?>

IMO, Intel will have to make an announcement soon that they will NOT be able to meet demand in Q3 as formerly promised. If they're smart, they'll let all the skeletons out of the closet then, including the "return to [bridge on the river] Katmai" story. Then there's also the rumors of PCPGA CPU's cracking in use.

With Katmai and FLopperMine overlapping from 500 to 650 MHz, its hard to tell what you're getting when you buy a PeeWeeIII system. I don't think it would Intel's fault if the customer didn't get what he thought -- thats the job of the boxmakers.

Come to think of it, with all the potential dark clouds on Intel's horizon, why on earth did I sell those Intel puts? Oh yeah, to buy more AMD (and TRMB). :-)

RE:"shouldn't Intel be required to make some sort of news release about flooding the market with Katmai PIIIs? They have released all kinds of Coppermine PIII benchmarks using Rambus. PC magazines have reviewed such systems. The consumer expects to be getting that performance level when they go out to buy a PIII system. They will buy Katmai without even knowing it. This should be illegal. This is a bait-and-switch kind of thing. Someone should notify Ralph Nader and the US Attorney General."

Intel never stopped doing this. Most people don't know a Flopper from and Katmai. They only know Mhz.
As far as Intel, it's starting to unravel. I'm beginning to regret buying the POS. My last buy is now underwater.
They "gotta get ta Willy" (TM-McMannis) or else.
I'm waiting for them to jilt RAMBUS...Tying all there new chipsets to RAMBUS looks stupider by the day. HEADS have got to roll at Intel. Otellini on the block first.
I'll likely pick up more AMD today or tomorrow...

Good luck, Jim
