First quarter mining production was 0,6% lower than the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted, according to Statistics SA figures released yesterday. Quarterly manufacturing output was unchanged from the fourth quarter of last year.

The fall in mining output was driven by a fall of 6,1% in yearon-year gold production, weighted at almost half of the index.
