Chic,
Iv'e seen people like you come and go over the years.
Whenever the market takes a hit you appear with your
doom and gloom know nothing advice.
As soon as the market corrects up you all disappear and
become tongue tied.
We all know the tech sector is over valued. We also
know there are a lot of competitive forces out there
trying to get an edge.
In my opinion your like a lot of other people that have no idea as to what SUN's philosophy is all about.
Their future ain't just servers.

Chic -
Now are we going to hear that OS/2 and Token Ring are superior solutions to Windows and Ethernet as well?
Oracle no competition for DB2? Who needs Unix when you can have OS/400?I think most people on the Sun thread appreciate IBM's engineering feats but for the past 20 years that hasnt translated into market succes. Sun is in the midst of a major upgrade cycle - ok, ultrasparc III is late and like you pointed out Merced is even later, im not sure how this benefits IBM one way or the other. The bigger issue is that Sun has a better architecture than IBM, it runs the same OS from a single CPU workstation to a cluster of E10K's - developers love that, IBM has god knows how many OS's and even different versions of AIX depending on 32 bit or 64 bit, workstation or server - developers hate that! As far as Solaris being a "terrible" OS - dont believe your own press releases and paid Market Analysts - If Solaris was so bad why is Oracle, SAP, Informix, Sybase, Peoplesoft and every major Enterprise application developed on Solaris and then ported to AIX?

I dont want to be too harsh on IBM cause i like the company but i see too many companies moving off IBM equipment too feel good about their future and 30% declines year over year in the HW revenues bear that out. If IBM has a bright future, come back in a year or so and tell us how smart you were- until then, Show me the money!

and you sure sound like a Spammer to me.
