Prophet,

There's something called "checkmate." Via is in the cross-hairs of a ramping transition to RDRAM.

Other than what has been shoved down peoples throat by Intel, there isn't any transition to RDRAM. Intel is having hard time selling 820 chipset - the main chipset for RDRAM. Here is a quote you may be interested in:

Marketing theory aside, demand for the i820 chipset continues to be very weak, with several motherboard manufacturers claiming that they did not ship any i820 based boards in March. In discussing this, the Intel spokesperson admitted that acceptance hasn't been as great as Intel would have liked, mostly because of RDRAM pricing issues.

Hi The Prophet; Re: "Via is in the cross-hairs of a ramping transition to RDRAM. If it is truly a smart company, we should see RDRAM motherboards shortly."

You wrote this back on May 11, 2000. ( #reply-13682330 ) Any idea when those VIA RDRAM chipsets are going to start showing up? I thought "shortly" went by some time ago.

And meanwhile, VIA is still gaining market share and is now supposedly about to start selling a DDR chipset for the P4.
