I would guess the biggest (highest margin, anyway) market for GaN devices are blue/violet lasers. Unclewest, do you know where CREE is in this arena?

cree ceo must agree with you...i have heard him say (recently) that the blue laser is their most important new product. he elaborated and stated that the laser has to be brought in...in the $15 range and last 10,000 hours. then he said there will be no pre announcements. when they have it, they will say so.
i believe they have one technical hurdle to overcome...but cree believes they have the expertise in house to complete the project. mvis may be involved here.

a coupla more points...
nitres was founded by 2 UCSB professors who are now cree employees...kind of incestuous in a way for nakamura...i would not be surprised to learn eventually that nakamura is a cree consultant.

also re...russian SiC...i believe the top russian SiC talent already works for cree.
