Now, this has to be another incredibly bone-headed statement (analogous to the one made by Listwin last year!) I've heard -- and coming from CSCO executive is all the more amazing.

How can CSCO claim to be the new-fangled leader of networking technology by laying back cautiously to see how "large the optics market segment" will be !?!

For long-haul backbone networking, LIGHT (optics) is the ONLY technology that will matter for the next forseeable future and for CSCO executive to make this statement is truely laughable.

It's almost like CSCO is trying to minimize the importance of optics BECAUSE they are such an insignificant player -- unfortunately spinning in public won't solve their huge problem of being left in the dust as the Optics technology take center stage with NT in the forefront.

It is CSCO that is now acting like an entrenched old-world vendor and NT that is clearly and decisively taking the lead in the high-end all-otpics technology which will be the next Gorilla Maker to displace also-rans like MOT and eventually CSCO.

I predicted this for two years --- and the market will eventually realize this.
