There was a quality of irresolution about Mondale, you are right, but at least he seemed fairly normal....I have seen guys like Gore before in various circumstances. In fact, I spent a little time getting to know some people at his prep school, St. Alban's, and several of the guys had that stick up the wazoo quality. I came to think that it was a combination of smugness and a facade designed to keep people off one's back, mainly adults. Meanwhile, one was smoking dope (marijuana) in the dorm room. That goes along with being a fan of the Grateful Dead and being a smart kid with exceptionally poor grades, by the way.......
