OT - I don't know the turnover ratio then, but it is very true that the growth from the S&P companies is much greater now. In addition, I've seen studies that earnings are understated now as compared to how they reported them then.

Other things most people don't realize include a different way of calculating unemployment than in the eighties. Tack on about one half percent for an apples to apples comparison. Trade gap, savings rates, and a few other things causing concern are not calculated correctly.
