Even if done for the express purpose of driving share price, it is legal. To encourage others to do the same is also legal. It may be a conspiracy, but to conspire to do a legal act is ok. Organizations do it all the time. Boycotts come to mind. I called my broker and he told me that large funds often do the same thing for various reaasons. You're on very solid ground here. A question my broker had, and neither of us knew the answer but will find out: isn't it possible that retirement account shares are already reserved? Since one can't utilize margin in that kind of an account, and therefore never signs a margin agreement with the brokerage house, it's possible the shares are already reserved. He's going to find out for me.
