Dylan, Stern Awarded Sweden's Top Music Prize
dailynews.yahoo.com

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - U.S. singer-songwriter Bob Dylan and Russian-American violinist Isaac Stern collected the Nordic
region's biggest music prize Monday in Sweden's capital, Swedish radio reported.

King Carl XVI Gustaf conferred the ninth annual Polar Music Prize, including a purse of one million Swedish crowns ($110,400)
each, on the two artists at a Stockholm concert hall.

The prize went to Stern for his ``consummate artistry distinguished by a personal musicianship without
compare'' and ''his uncompromising attitude concerning the humanistic power of music,'' the award citation said.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Music awarded the honor to Dylan for his ``indisputable influence'' on the
development of 20th century music over almost four decades.

``He has demonstrated an impressive ability to question the most determined political forces, to fight all forms
of prejudice, and to offer unflinching support for the less fortunate,'' the academy said.

Previous winners include Paul McCartney, Elton John, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Ravi Shankar, Dizzy Gillespie, Bruce Springsteen
and Stevie Wonder.
