DDI caves in on cdma2000. VW40 left at the altar. This is very good news. It means Globalstar has a clear technological pathway through to 2010 with uninterrupted improvements to come year after year.

Japan's DDI to use cdma2000 format for cellphones
TOKYO, May 12 (Reuters) - Japanese long-distance telephone carrier DDI Corp said on
Friday it will use the cdma2000 format for its third-generation cellphones.

The U.S. format promoted by Qualcomm Inc (NasdaqNM:QCOM - news) would enable DDI to cut costs by taking
advantage of existing infrastructure used by its current cdmaOne mobile phones, also developed by Qualcomm, analysts said.

DDI's main cellphone competitors, NTT Docomo and Japan Telecom's J-Phone plan to use the W-CDMA (Wideband Code
Division Multiple Access) technology promoted by Docomo and supported by European carriers.

DDI is set to merge in October with KDD Corp , Japan's largest international telecoms carrier, and unlisted cellphone service
provider IDO Corp.

The announcement came after the Tokyo market had closed. DDI shares ended up 6.93 percent at 1.08 million yen.

PS: Fallen over at golf lately Tony? Just like golf in the rain, you have to stick with Globalstar through the tough half, Zenit rockets falling over etc, then the sun comes out and life is great. The fancy golf clubs are gradually getting trained, but they are still not fully automatic.
