With deepest apologies to Lewis Carrol:

"I don't know what you mean by 'W-CDMA,'" Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. "Of course you don't - till I tell you. I meant 'there's a nice knock-down argument for you!'"

But 'W-CDMA' doesn't mean 'a nice knock down argument,'" Alice objected.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."

"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - that's all"

Tero, it's indeed fortunate that we don't need decoders to communicate.<g>

I believe that the DDI "pronouncements" that CDMA2000 was behind DS CDMA were simply a negotiating ploy. The proof is in the pudding. Haven't you noticed that DDI went with CDMA2000? Do you honestly feel that they would go with a system that would put DDI at a two year disadvantage?

I'm glad to see that someone has DS CDMA ASICS in production, especially since there is no set standard for DS CDMA. Perhaps someone is supremely prescient. Why has no one announced that they exist, or have I missed something (which is quite possible)? Seeing and touching them doesn't convince me that they work. Info appreciated, really.

I try really, really hard to ignore this thread because of the incredible misinformation posted here. I respect the right of Nokia share holders to engage in a dialogue concerning their company and investments. However, I just can't stand it any more.

The ASIC's are already in production, of course. The first 3G base stations are being manufactured here in Finland. I have discussed with telecom analysts who have toured the factories producing them. They, like, touched them and stuff - just to make sure they exist in this dimension.

This is an outright lie. I defy you to name one company producing a DS-CDMA ASIC with capabilities that function according to any 3G standard and that has been tested in real markets. I'm waiting.

You stated that in the universe "..where I live, it's a fact that cdma2000 is roughly 2 years behind W-CDMA in actual implementation." Now, you are reading carrier tea-leaves instead of stating a universal fact. Which one is it?

You also said that the "...ASIC's are already in production, of course." Now, they are not yet in production and, in fact, may be software emulators. Which one is it?
