John,

Do you have a link to anyone building DIMM riser boards for RIMM slots? Last I heard, that idea was scrapped when they announced the MTH.

John, re: <Could the extreme situations that Intel describes as a problem primarily be HP's DIMM riser board and not the vast bulk of 820 chipset motherboards with MTH soldered directly on to motherboard. >
First of all, I don't know what a DIMM riser board is. Is it a board with the MTH and DIMM on a card that plugs into a RIMM socket?
And since it appears all of the third party mobo makers are affected by the recall, (however severe the problem), I would guess it's not isolated to HP. Also, Intel is probably the major source of mobo's to the first tier accounts, and I guess systems with their mobo's are also subject to this recall. Rather a messy situation, all in all.
