How do you deal with the NTT-DoCoMo announcement of launching W-CDMA next May? Do you just block it out of your consciousness? Or do you think the DoCoMo people are "liars"? Or that they are launching the service without chipsets?

I question the time table being given to NTT-DoCoMo by their suppliers. Anyone can make a press release. A year from now, who's going to remember? Launch dates can be rolled back as needed. Also, what would constitute a "roll out?" A few base stations in a small test market?

How do you explain the sums that leading operators are now bidding for W-CDMA licenses? Do you think this is an act of faith that hasn't been preceded by reviewing the test networks and model handsets?

Are you referring to the spectrum auctions in Great Britain? Actually, I believe that the amounts of money being spent are purchasing spectrum for 3G in general. Which implementation of 3G will actually occur is open to debate (in some minds).

Curious that Vodafone's CEO would say today that he expects data rates of 1.5MB will be implemented next year. If you think that DS-CDMA will do that next year, you are reading different press releases than I am. The only technology I know of that will deliver that kind of performance by next year is 1xMC/HDR.

FYI, both Sprint and Verizon have started or are starting pilot 1x services right now. These are real handsets in real markets. How can you say that DS-CDMA is "two years" ahead of MC-CDMA when there are NO pilot DS-CDMA systems in use anywhere in the world? In fact, I'd be totally shocked if any pilot service in DS-CDMA were offered anywhere in the world by next May.
