>>Ordinarily, it is difficult for competent minorities (Black/Hispanic)to find work commensurate with their skills

1. These aren't particularly ordinary times.

2. Do you know this? This is speculation, no?

3. All I can offer is my own anecdotal evidence that half of every staff meeting I attend (and I attend a lot of them) is devoted to hiring. You cannot tell me that a black / hispanic / female / martian with a strong background in C++ could walk in this building and not be hired on the spot. Walking through here is like walking through the United Nations building.

Possibly HP has problems with turning away black or hispanic talent, in which case the company has problems even worse than Carly's spending days at a conference talking about it, making it a true NEL. I can't believe that Cisco has issues with workforce diversity, though. For pete's sake, they advertise jobs in the movie theaters here!

Maybe Chambers is just trying to further encourage any and all to come to Cisco, and is using this conference as a recruiting tool, in which case he's a smarter guy than I thought.

Try this experiment: post a resume on careermosaic, listing an education from a good school and a work history in C++, showing your name as Rosarita Miguelita Gonzales. Count the number of calls you get. Then post the same resume with the name William Stanton III and compare the number of calls. I will officially eat crow if you get a materially different number of calls.
