What about the Boomers who want their cash?
Who is going to supply the bids? Generation X?
I am a Boomer, and cashed out early. Think about it, the real curve in retirement withdrawals will be long before what the next guy think. The stock market is not Social Security, there also is no FDIC to guarantee any deposits lost to market forces.
Your retirement/wealth in stocks is dependent only on the trust that the next guy won't take your lunch. Good luck come time everyone is thinking "diversification". A 10% portfolio rebalance in all accounts will lead to much larger declines in stock prices. Did Abby's 5% reduction lead to the current downdraft? Competition for bids involves dealers as well as individuals trading. Guess what, decimalization will lead to even smaller dealer inventories, which part explains the imbalances and volatility in the NASD. Good Luck.
