You may want to double check if the quotes E*Trade spits out is really real time. I know Waterhouse does not and on one exchange only. This is why I had to rely on CBOE's real time site ($8 per month). $8 is worth the insurance. Almost all of my orders showed up immediately on CBOE after I have placed them. I said almost because a few "lowly" traded options never show up. This is because the MM is unwilling to sell me the contracts. In many cases, as soon as I placed the buy order on the "ask" price, it changed higher even when the underlying stock moved down. This is clearly MM manipulation.
