What is the closest female equivalent of a codpiece?

You might require a weighty dictionary to find the answer, which is, of course, 'merkin.'

I am deeply disturbed about the distinct possibility of a typo. The "k" is adjacent to the "l" on a keyboard. Please say it ain't a typo!

his use some weeks ago of the archaic term 'codfoolery,

"Codpockery". was used, put the meaning is the same.

Travolva's codpiece was considerably larger than that of his fellow actor's.

There was usually an inverse correlation between the size of the codpiece and the cod being covered.

It was common in that era to decorate the codpiece.

If the codpiece comes back into fashion, the sale of rhinestones and "bedazzelers", now used by the "West Coast" dancing crowd to decorate their shirts and dresses, will increase dramatically.
