David, when you finish a 10K, 42K cannot be far behind. The first one is just for the experience. Afterward, you're hooked. I know. Train 40 to 50 miles a week, but increase to that level gradually. You will lose weight and get faster. Eat plenty of pasta and drink lots of fluids. Beer tastes good, I know, and is good for you, I would like to believe. It is rumored Shorter had a 6 pack the morning he won the gold. The shark ladies will admire you and demand you wear a thong. They mean well. Pay no attention. Break 40, if you can. When you are ready we will talk intervals and such. The Pub is OK, but remember, no cigars, even the great Dutch ones dispensed by the proprietor. I will accept good English, American micro brewery or Belgian or Dutch Trappist ales in lieu of dollars for my coaching fees.
