The fact that the economies are different has little to do with the GDP growth stats that were being discussed and the effect that the different methodologies of measurement has on them.

It's NOT an error to assume hedonic pricing would have a positive effect on the European (and espcially Asian!) stats if you know the kinds of things that are included in hedonic pricing. In the US it is mostly high technology items, but other items like telecommunications equipment, electronics, etc.. have been added to the list or are in the process of being added.

Those are clearly represented in western European economies and are a big part of many Asian economies. Some are produced by domestic companies and some are produced by US companies based in the foreign country.

The comparative GDP growth figures are definitely apples to oranges even if we can't quantify the numbers. On a relative basis the US is not doing as well as it appears.
