I posted the brief from the WSJ without comment in part because I wasn't sure what to make of it. It's too bad the story was so short and we don't have more context.

I see that you concluded that they did it out of pride. You hint at bravado. That was not my first reaction. I thought they might have done it as a way of commiserating in the face of the heat they've taken. I'll bet they're feeling very misunderstood. Reasonable people can disagree about whether their approach was the correct one. They were probably prepared to have their judgment questioned. But it must be really hard for them to be on the receiving end of so much personal abuse.

The slogan, "Miami Is Behind You," is an interesting double-entendre...

I will give you a homework assignment: please go to your local library and look for the Holocaust section where you can see horrifying pictures of the real Gestapo at work.

Your comparison insults the millions tortured and killed in the Holocaust.
