Putting aside opinions and following the law is part of the duty of public servants. Intelligent and together people are able to do that to a very great extent if there's a culture surrounding them that supports it. Sure things can get a little uneven here and there, but the system can still be fair. The problem comes when the culture expects judges to bring an agenda to the bench with them and that's not only condoned but encouraged.
