Ron, >>but I seem to have read somewhere that the Mexican debt was paid back already as a result of their guaranteeing their debt against their petroleum exports.

I read somewhere that they made a progress payment last week.

Yes, there are a lot of good ideas for alternative fuels, but the oil powers: OPEC, our oil companies and others will fight tooth and nail to keep oil as a main source of energy. Survival is a strong emotion.

I worked on the project "Blue Print Independence" during the last oil crises and we proved there was no cheaper alternative at that time. I am sure technology has come up with new ideas since then, but I do not know if any of any of these will be cheaper at the bottom line. One of the problems is building the infrastructure to enable these new technologies, even if the engineers could bring them to market.

IMO, we will need a shock for our political system to pursue these new technologies.

Have a good day,

Joan

<But higher prices in energy are not true inflation, but only a display of price manipulation by monopolist producers.>

Yes, assuming the price of something else went down... NASD?
Nyuk, nyuk.

Ron,
Right you are when you said.>>

"There are substantial untapped reserves of energy lying in wait in tar sands, oil shale... etc, all just waiting for the technological capability and the political will to exploit them."

This in my opinion will be the mining story of the year.

<<Btw, I haven't even discussed hydrogen fuel cells yet, which seem all the rage amongst daytraders trading in their stocks.>>

To little to late & safety concerns. Even GE is backing off their early commitment to fuel cells.
