There is really nothing in that article that is "new" news. I'm sure there will be a spike upward Monday but as you say the big question is why is ALSC selling for less than the market value of its investment portfolio. My guess is that that as an "investment" most market participants feel that the stocks ALSC holds ( BRCM, VTSS ) are overpriced, possibly because they've been marked up by traders who are more interested in momentum that the value of the business. So ALSC is being valued by the worth of its portfolio as a business investment rather than as a trading tool. Another point is that many no load funds ( maybe not an appropriate comparison ) routinely sell at a discount to their net asset value.
