Hi John,
you do not have to have 64 bit computers to deal with 64 bit IP addresses. In the past, we used to have 8 bit computers and IP addresses were still 32 bits. No problem. At least not a real problem. It just gets imperceptibly slower to (in 4 steps of 8 bits) to compose or parse the address. Same thing with 32 bits computers dealing with 64 bit addresses..
