The issues you raise about web security are certainly a concern. One benefit of the dial up ISP I use (Compuserve) is that I am assigned a different Internet address each time I log on. So at least any holes that they find will have moved elsewhere. But I did log on to the grc.com website, and found that the explanatory material has been updated, and specific instructions added for closing open ports, which seemed to work well.
