So many people find it so threatening to suggest that a six year old should be able to decide his own fate. Why?

This is no ordinary six year old, and is no ordinary situation. I think that situations should be judged individually.

If what you say is true, don't you think that the boy would want to go home with his father? So, then, what is the harm is letting him choose?

I think there's little threat that this will lead to masses of six-year-olds petitioning to leave their parents and live with a relative...
