I will not engage further in this "apples and oranges" argument.

You are simply diverting attention from the specifics of the debate, by generalizing to situations that are not at all similar.

Both of your propositions are correct--6 years olds cannot comprehend these matters, and in some states 15 year olds get away with murder.

Master, you have attempted to cast Elian in the role of villian - and it is preposterous!

Your arguments make sense if he is the villian. If you let him "get away with it" then it sets a precedence for other child-villians.

But he is, in fact, a victim.

Instead of the compassion that should be shown toward a victim - attempting to facilitate their wishes, if possible - and if not, at least empathy - you parallel the situation with ones where punishment is more appropriate.

In effect, you have turned the victim into the villian.

Unfortunately, a common (and successful) technique of public debate in this country...
