chalu, The blacks could always vote but, the democrat controllers of the state, thought up this little idea of a poll tax. Economically, it was not feasible for the blacks to vote. I hope you don't think that I condoned such a ruse. The first Republicans in the state, which were roundly booed, and publicly shunned, were against the poll tax, so the blame rests squarely upon the shoulders of the Democratic party. What party do you think started the flying of the "Stars and Bars" in the South Eastern states. Since Republicans were, virtually, nonexistent in those states, it should only take one guess. Slavery was abhorrent, and few, if any people in any area are proud of that era in our country but, the ones I was referring to, which you probably already knew, are the millions of, fairly recent immigrants, from foreign lands. Some may have fled persecution but, most came for the money. Preferably the "goodies" handed out by the government. The reason I said what I did, is that those you have mentioned in New York have a propensity to vote for the very party that enslaved them. ~H~
