OT OT Hi Gary, re:may we trouble you to tell us:

This laptop was a long time coming (it replaces a 100MHz Pentium classic (pre-MMX) Toshiba). The Speedstep offerings finally got me into the purchasing mood <VBG>.

To answer your questions:

1. what brand Sony XG-19
2. cost $3995, not including RAM upgrade
3. it's actually able to fit BOTH DVD and CD-RW drives simultaneously?!!! It's got a hot-swappable bay which can take the DVD, CD-RW, floppy, a blank panel to save weight, or extra battery (but only one at a time).

I specifically went for the Sony because they are the only manufacturer to offer IEEE-1394 in a laptop. I needed this to interface my Sony Digital8 camcorder for frame grabbing, digital editing, etc.

Greg.
