yeah, the ref's job in that fight was to protect hall from himself. that fact was abundantly clear to everyone, apparently, 'cept the ref.

maybe he got caught up in hoping hall would land one big punch. maybe he was so close he couldn't see what we saw. i don't know. but hall reminded me of that korean fighter that boom boom mancicni beat until he died... i think his name was duk su kim (or something close). he lapsed into a coma and never came back. i read that over his locker in the dressing room he had taped a sign that read (in korean), "win or die". he was a gallant fighter too.

i know that many will say the entire sport is brutal.... but it is still a sport and not a life or death struggle. it's up to the third man in the ring to keep it that way.
