There is another trick that the MM will do. If a trader could like to unwind his May position and roll it over to the next month, he will place a combination order. For example, May XYZ 50 is 1 (bid) and June XYZ 55 is 4 (ask). Therefore, the trader will enter a net order of $3 (4-1). The MM may execute both sides with a combination of (May/June 0.5/3.5 or 4/7). Imagine a trade went through at $4 for May and you just got filled for 1? You are probably kicking yourself for selling too early. This is why sometimes we see some strange highs and lows.
