yikes. From what i've seen over the years, being in the same place as the food isn't too wise....

on one backpack trip we did all the official bear bag methods and the bears came and took 2 bags (all of our breakfasts for the rest of the trip. Then they stayed at the perimeter of our camp the rest of the night as we stood guard over our food. it was as if they were saying... go back to sleep, we'll take the rest.

but I did manage to invent a foolproof way to bearbag... u put all ur food in a garbage bag, put some rocks in the bag. seal it shut but drain all the air. (tie a knot) then throw it out in a nearby lake. In the morning u have to take a chilly dip to retrieve your food. but the bears never even smell it....
