CommerceN.com Introduces Security Solution Based on Fingerprint Recognition 2000/05/10(Wed) 18:14 By Yang Sung-jin Staff Reporter A fingerprint recognition system aimed at blocking cyber scams in electronic commerce transactions has been developed by a Korean solution provider, marking the first breakthrough in the field. CommerceN.com (www.commercen.com), an e-commerce solutions developer, said it has completed a billing system merged with fingerprint recognition for user identification. Commercial application will begin as soon as testing is wrapped up, CommerceN.com officials said yesterday. ``Putting the online billing system and fingerprint recognition together will help improve e-commerce security and block hacking for user profiles,'' a CommerceN.com spokesman said. Fingerprint recognition sensors, if attached to keyboards or a mouse, will be priced at around 150,000 won per unit. The venture firm is in talks with a local securities company to apply the user identification technology to a stock trading e-commerce system. If the plan goes ahead, online traders will have to use their fingertips instead of passwords to log on to the trading network as early as July. Although the solution itself is in its testing period, the supply of commercial products will be readily available. ``Since there are lots of small venture solution providers which already rolled out fingerprint recognition packages, those products can be remodified right away for the e-commerce version with our new technology,'' the spokesman said. The introduction of the fingerprint identification in e-commerce is expected to kickstart the long-awaited growth of online shopping. Until now, shopping mall operators have found it hard persuading users to enter their personal profiles and financial information since online security is largely unreliable. But fingerprint recognition may assure users of online security when they purchases goods and services on the Web through e-commerce solutions provided by site operators, thereby boosting sales and revenues. CommerceN.com's solution will likely be priced at under 100,000 won if online shopping malls buy the package in bulk and distribute the solutions to users at lower prices. The company plans to supply the solution to business-to-business exchange operators as well as business-to-consumer outfits after marketing the product to securities companies, which are keen on safeguarding their systems against hacking. ·âú¶«Çøœ 2000/05/10 18:14203.248.249.112 From CommerceN.com (www.commercen.com)ist.co.kr steve
